Assignment #8

How to... disagree

We usually directly negative someone when we have different opinions.

We always say "I don't agree with you", or "You're wrong!" It may create problems and unhappy for each other. This news tell us that there is no absolute right or wrong, just you stand on different side. If you want to be less direct, you can agree about something first, like "Although you're right about that...", "I agree with that, but...", and "I understand what you're saying, but..." If there's no chance of agreement, this phrase can help stop a long argument : "We'll have to agree to disagree."

Assignment #7 The key to success

I agree with her argument.
In her speech , she said “Grit is passion and perseverance for very long-term goals. Grit is sticking with your future, day in, day out, not just for the week, not just for the month, but for years, and working really hard to make that future a reality.
I think that if you don’t have passion , you couldn’t keep continue to do so. And then ,you won’t be success. In my school life, I am not a smart student. If I want a great grade , I must study hard.Study hard is the only way I can do.
In this speech, my favorite sentence is “Grit is living life like it's a marathon, not a sprint.
I like her metaphor. Grit is the long way to do. Success belong to the persevering.

Assignment #6

Sam Smith - Writing's On The Wall

I've been here before
But always hit the floor
I've spent a lifetime running
And I always get away
But with you I'm feeling something
That makes me want to stay

I'm prepared for this
I never shoot to miss
But I feel like a storm is coming
If I'm gonna make it through the day
Then there's no more use in running
This is something I gotta face

If I risk it all
Could you break my fall?

How do I live? How do I breathe?
When you're not here I'm suffocating
I want to feel love, run through my blood
Tell me is this where I give it all up?
For you I have to risk it all
'Cause the writing's on the wall

A million shards of glass
That haunt me from my past
As the stars begin to gather
And the light begins to fade
When all hope begins to shatter
Know that I won't be afraid

If I risk it all
Could you break my fall?

How do I live? How do I breathe?
When you're not here I'm suffocating
I want to feel love, run through my blood
Tell me is this where I give it all up?
For you I have to risk it all
'Cause the writing's on the wall

The writing's on the wall

How do I live? How do I breathe?
When you're not here I'm suffocating
I want to feel love, run through my blood
Tell me is this where I give it all up?
How do I live? How do I breathe?
When you're not here I'm suffocating
I want to feel love, run through my blood
Tell me is this where I give it all up?
For you I have to risk it all
'Cause the writing's on the wall

*suffocating
1.making it difficult to breathe normally
2.restricting what somebody/something can do

Smith said: “This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.”

Smith told BBC Radio 1's Nick Grimshaw that he recorded the track in January 2015. "I got called into the office with Barbara Broccoli and Sam Mendes and they gave me the script, I read the script... they said 'have a go at the song'" Smith disclosed. "It's the quickest I've ever written a song - it took 20 minutes... and they loved it!"

Assignment #3 My thoughts and new findings on ESL Cyber Listening Lab

After the class on Tuesday, I think I know some interesting information.
I learned some skill about accent reduction and linking.

I just learned Kenyon and Knott(KK) when I was an elementary school student.

I try to listen ESL Cyber Listening Lab everyday , but it's difficult to do.
So I more treasure each time in class, can learn more about English.
Last week, our homework is find vocabulary in a conversation.
Tool is Oxford Advanced American Dictionary.
This website has good examples and explanation vocabulary. So I think Oxford Advanced American Dictionary is great for me.
